COVID-19 Update May 2025: What You Need to Know
As of May 26, 2025, India is witnessing a modest resurgence in COVID-19 cases. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reports an active caseload of 1,009, with Delhi surpassing 100 active cases and Kerala leading with 430 active infections.
Emerging Variants: NB.1.8.1 and LF.7
Two new subvariants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, have been detected in India. These variants are classified by the World Health Organization as “Variants Under Monitoring.”
- NB.1.8.1: First identified in Tamil Nadu, this variant is closely related to Omicron but exhibits minor mutations in the spike protein.
- LF.7: Detected in Gujarat, LF.7 is also under close observation for its transmissibility and impact.
Common Symptoms to Watch For
The symptoms associated with these new variants are generally mild and resemble those of common viral infections:
- Fever (typically mild)
- Dry cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or congested nose
- Headache
- Fatigue
It’s important to note that while these symptoms are mild, individuals experiencing them should seek medical advice, especially if they belong to high-risk groups.
